HAPPY ANNIVERSARY,
URBAN SANCTUARY!!!

Come help us celebrate
in as many events as you’d like:

  • Wed. May 1st ~ instead of YogaFaith and SoundBath, we will be offering our 2nd Despacho Ceremony - a ceremony of gratitude from the Andean mountains and peoples. 5:30-7:30pm. There are only a few spaces available, so consider registering early. Also, please come by 5:20, doors will close promptly at 5:30 to begin the ceremony. There is no charge for this event, but registration for headcount is appreciated.

  • Sat. May 4th - 1:00-2:00pm - This is World Labyrinth Day (WLD). Just as for our First year, in celebration of WLD, we offered our “Walk-at-1:00-as-ONE” event. It consisted of an outdoor labyrinth, taped in the street. We have since then, offered indoor walks. This year we are doing a more educational event - From 1:00-2:00pm, come inside and ‘finger walk’ any number of labyrinth patterns and pray for world peace as you do so. There will be future educational events you can sign up for. There is no registration nor fee required for this event.

  • Also, Sat. May 4th - 2:00-5:00pm - during the Enumclaw Fiesta celebrations (aka Cinco de Mayo on the 4th), we will be holding demonstrations and workshops on making Blessing Sticks & Bath Salts. These would make beautiful and thoughtful gifts for all the moms and nurturing women in your life, who could benefit from a relaxing and healing bath -or- the scent of natural healing incense. You can choose personalizing botanicals just for her (or yourself)! Cost is:

    • $20 for one blessing stick that you create and take home to cure (dry out) + one of ours that have dried out enough to burn immediately (plus you will know how to create your own) -or-

    • $20 for one - 12 oz. jar of Herbal -or- Botanical Bath Salts, personalized just for her (yourself).

    • There will also be other pre-made spa products available for sale.

From drums and flutes, to brass and crystal singing bowls and gongs and chimes . . . you will be mesmerized! You will leave so incredibly relaxed!

My brother, Marty, a welder extraordinaire, made the frame for my sign, even incorporating a labyrinth in the design.

Below you will find some photos of our first day, three years ago. It’s hard to believe we are beginning our fourth year as the only Sanctuary in the area. We have greeted hundreds of guests and many we now call family -or- “Friends of the Sanctuary”. We have offered classes, workshops, and retreats to present different forms of creative expression -or- what we like to call, meditative art forms, as well as exploring different types of prayer, meditation and tools for spiritual growth and development.. We use our personal gifts/talents/skills/inspirations from our loving Creator, as well as, gifts of the Earth (plants) and animals (primarily wool, maybe a feather or two. . . ) to express our creativity, through:

  • Hand work - beading, embroidery, needle punch, needle felting, Wool painting, wool embroidery from beginning simple practices that get you comfortable and allow you to progress to much more difficult projects. These are our most popular offerings.

  • Painting - acrylics, pastels, watercolors, inks . . . I do not teach you how to paint, I teach you how to be still long enough to hear that small voice/whisper and let your creative spirit release from tension to art/creativity. All supplies are included, you just bring you to the table.

  • Botanicals - we primarily use the gifts our Creator has so richly blessed us as inhabitants of the glorious Pacific NW! Our blessing stick base is the sacred Cedar of this land. Similar to smudge sticks of our indigenous peoples, we use these materials with prayer to bless our space and our time together. ‘Like incense, our prayers rise to heaven.’ We are, in turn, blessed with fragrance from the incense as well as it’s cleansing and purifying properties. Some we use as “healing smoke’, such as Eucalyptus for respiratory issues. (*we are not medical professionals, we just learn about the uses of the gifts of the earth for our benefit and yours.)

  • Spa Products - we also use our botanicals and mix them with various salts, minerals, milks to create soothing bath and body care products. We also make soaps and essential oil blends. All sustainably sourced and curated with loving care.

The work I was professionally trained to do, however, is Spiritual Direction and Labyrinth Facilitation.
I have been a Spiritual Director for 15 years and Labyrinth Facilitator for 25 years. (Youth Minister for over 30 years!) I consider myself very blessed to have worked with/sat with/learned from some of the most spiritual people on the planet. (my mother for starters!) I try to bring their humility, compassion, care and wonder to each encounter with another. While I come from the Christian/Catholic tradition, I also minored in Comparative Religions.

I have deep respect for all wisdom traditions, and love learning from them. All are welcome to this sacred space to help grow closer to their understanding of the Divine power in their life . . . or to help them discover it. From my Irish ancestry, a Spiritual Director is called an, “Anam Cara”, which means “Soul Friend”. I would love to explore that relationship with you . . . holding sacred space where you can tell your story, and, learn and grow from it. No judgement.

I find the Labyrinth such a powerful metaphor for life . . . with its twists and turns and its meandering path, leading, always, to the center, (if you stay on the path!). There are no ‘right or wrong’ ways to walk the labyrinth, but it is the intent with which you use it, that will determine its benefit for you. For most, the center is the point of focus, but as in life, it’s not always about the destination, but rather, the journey.
I have found it to often be a profound source of self-awareness, healing of anxiety and stress, and in many cases, a catalyst for transformation.

Our programs are Christ-centered - meaning that we look to Christ’s example of unconditional love towards all of humanity, even HIs enemies - and - His gifts of Peace, Love, Joy, Kindness, Compassion, etc.. We often share Scripture passages as prayer, incorporated into our work, and as remembrance of His Word(s) for us.

YogaFaith - our yoga offering is one of stretching our faith as well as our bodies, minds and spirits. My sister, Laurie, is my instructor and she does an amazing job of sprinkling in some gentle worship or meditational music, with some appropriate scripture with which to meditate, as you stretch and breathe. She offers recommendations for modifications after learning what each participant could benefit from. If chair yoga would be a better option, she can lovingly incorporate that into the class for an individual without anyone feeling awkward. We end our class with a short SoundBath to draw out your relaxation before heading back into the world. It is always a wonderful way to spend a Wednesday evening. Currently our class is from 5:30-6:45pm.

We opened May 1, 2021 ~ World Labyrinth Day! What a way to kick off one of the main offerings of our sacred space!

Our first flyer! We taped a labyrinth in the street and was both a curiosity and welcome path to walk for the community.

Open House shows off various offerings from this beautiful space - Prayer Corner; Labyrinth Education-History and uses, design, facilitation of walks; Library/Reading Corner. Following the room around, Creative Expression Resource cabinets, and Examples of Classes with Samples; Hospitality area are not shown.

The community shows up to learn what Urban Sanctuary has to offer.

We created a labyrinth in the street at the corner of Myrtle & Cole. The two blessed souls without whose support and back-breaking labor, Urban Sanctuary would not exist! I am forever grateful to my sister, Laurie and life-long friend,/soul sister, Melanie!

Samples of class offerings and descriptions/prices/kits available, etc. . .

My handpainted 22’ Octagonal Canvas - original design. We adopt the triskele from Ireland as our logo, since Melanie and I got to go there together in 2018 - she machine embroidered the one (partial image) on the entrance desk. She also did many other designs, including one of the design on the floor canvas! She’s such a precious friend!!! I am incredibly blessed!
